It killed my calves the first time I used it and I was running quite a bit before I bought it...I purchased it because I have been having heel/arch pain from running and this little machine 'sort of' takes the place of running for now. It's quiet and smooth! I takes a little getting used to, but it's great for the price.S. Now, I'd rather be on this than out for a jog pounding my knees. The size is perfect. Granted you don't get the full range of motion from a full size elliptical, but I couldn't be happier. I had one minor problem with one of the front pads (it didn't render it inoperable at all), and when I called the company about it, they sent out a new one which arrived in two days. I can stay on this for an hour easily while watching TV, and you do work up a good sweat. Balance has not been an issue. I liked this item so much that I got two more for friends. They love it too. I saw some reviews that talked about the limited range of motion, but we are all about 5'4"-5'6" and it isn't an issue. I'd recommend this for anyone that doesn't want to see a work-out machine in any part of their house. It has a low profile and can be easily hidden. Even if you leave it out (as I do) it's hardly noticeable.D. Collier Said: perfect 'at your desk' workout machine ( Nov. 12th 2009 )I bought this to use at the office. The product seems to work pretty well overall. However, while the motion keeps my knees lower, they were still grazing the underside of the desk. After a little trial and error, I came across 2 motions that worked out pretty well. The first was to have my knees point out to the sides and rest the outside of each foot on the elliptical pedal, and pedal that way. The other way I came up with was to put my heels against the front lip of the foot pedal and pedal like a recumbent bike. This way gives me a bit more of a workout and I usually take a break from it after 10 or 15 minutes. Duct taping old insoles to the front lip made this a lot more comfortable on my heel. The machine seems very quiet. Coworkers sitting right next to me can't hear it and its not really noticeable that I'm using it. This is nice because it doesn't reduce the appearance of professionalism in the workplace. And for anyone that might be self conscious, they could use it without worry. Conservatively, I can probably burn at least 100 calories an hour doing this. So if I only do this for a combined two hours a day, that's 1000 calories a week. In month, I could burn a pound and in a year, thats an extra 12 pounds at least. I've only had it for about a month and I workout regularly in the morning as well. I'm just hoping for a slight bonus with this. That and, with my fidgety nature, I'll use it to some extent just because its there. With so many people having desk jobs in today's society, for just $100 a person, I'd think this would be a good way for employers to combat obesity and health issues in their staff and possibly even lower their insurance premiums.A. ( Nov. 10th 2009 )I got this machine for my birthday 6 months ago and I must say whoever came up with the idea for these little ellipticals, steppers, and bike pedals was a genius. I live in a 500 sq. ft. apartment so I don't have room for a big piece of cardio equipment. There are minor drawbacks, but it's amazing for what it is! It was very easy to assemble. Your range of motion is of course pretty small and also not the smoothest motion, and it does get a little squeaky sometimes. I do like that I can adjust the resistance which makes it easier to get my heart rate up. I do a lot of interval training so the drawback here is that it's awkward (and probably not safe) when I reach down to adjust the resistance while I'm on it. An easier trick I've learned is to set a pair of free weights on the coffee table next to me to pick up occasionally through my workout so I can raise my heart rate. I've also found that if you go down into a squat and pedal quickly you can really up your heart rate and simultaneously work your quads and glutes really hard! Plus this makes the range of motion much smoother. Try it!! I like that I can get off and it will save my time until I reset it. I can just get back on later and the clock will pick up from where I left off. That's great because it really doesn't matter if you do 30 minutes all at once or if you add time up throughout the day. It's very easy just to squeeze a few minutes in here and there. Some people may struggle with the lack of something to hold on to for balance. You can always start by setting it up by a wall or something to stabilize yourself. It's actually great for you to challenge your balance when you workout. Being forced to balance will activate more muscles (particularly butt and abs!) and therefore burn more calories. Good balance is also important for injury prevention. If you're not sure of your balance starting out, you may want to work up to going hands-free over time. This machine is so great to have in my tiny apartment to get on while I'm watching TV and would otherwise just be sitting on my butt. Also perfect for those spare moments when you could easily be adding a little activity to your day. I don't always want to leave home for a workout and this is the perfect solution. Not the world's greatest elliptical or anything, but it meets my top two requirements: small and inexpensive! I'm always recommending it!!English Teacher Said: Great product!
